FAQ (Windows)

(1) Even if the device is connected to USB port, the icon of the device still cannot be displayed.

Cause: [Refresh] has not been executed.

Measure: Please click on [View] then [Refresh] in [My Computer].

Cause: This device cannot be recognized due to the connected USB port.

Measure: Please replace the connected USB port.

Cause: Connection is done improperly.

Measure: Please verify whether the device is connected correctly to the deep point of USB port. Furthermore, remove the device, and after 3 seconds or so try to connect it again.

Cause: Other USB devices are in use.

Measure: Please connect the device to USB port after end of use of other USB devices.

(2) The OS cannot be booted from this device.

Cause: When the device is connected with USB port, the OS cannot be booted from this device.

Measure: When the device is connected with USB port, the OS should not be booted from this device.

Cause: When the device is connected with eSATA interface, the OS cannot be booted from this device.

Measure: The OS should not be booted from this device.

(3) When being resumed from Standby or Sleep to Normal, this device cannot be recognized.

Cause: When being resumed from Standby or Sleep to Normal, this device may not be recognized.

Measure: Please remove this device and connect it again. If it still cannot be recognized, please restart the PC.

(4) The POWER/ACCESS lamp of the device is not lighted on.

Cause: The power supply of the PC is not connected.

Measure: If the device is not connected to a PC with power supply connected, the power supply of the device shall not be connected. Therefore, the lamp for power supply shall not be on even if the device is connected to the PC with no power supply connected.

(5) Once format is started, the screen will display error. (only in case of Windows XP/2000)

Cause: [Create Partition Wizard] has been finished before end of formatting.

Measure: When using [Disk Management] to create partitions and format the device, you may see the following message and find that formatting is still on progress but the [New Partition Wizard] has already been finished.
[ The volume is opened or in use. Request cannot be completed.]
The display of this message means formatting has not been done, but the creating of partition has been finished.
In case this message is displayed, please click on [OK] button to close the display. In the [Disk Management] right-click on the created partitions and then click on the displayed [Format...], formatting shall be finished.

(6) While making format with [Disk Management], you are unable to set the size of partition with mouse. (only in case of Windows XP/2000)

Cause: You may not set some size with mouse.

Measure: Please use keyboard to input data for the setting.

(7) Even if the power supply of the PC is off, the POWER/ACCESS lamp of this device shall still be on.

Cause: Some PC may still supply power to the port even if its power supply is cut off.

Measure: In such case, the power supply of this device keeps connected. Please remove this device.

(8) When you read from and write to the device, other USB devices cannot be recognized.

Cause: This device holds USB bus.

Measure: In such case, you cannot recognize the USB devices immediately. Please connect other USB devices after end of use of this device.

(9) Once the device is connected to USB hub, error occurs.

Cause: Some USB hub may cause the device running abnormally.

Measure: Please remove the device from USB hub and connect it directly to the PC's USB port. Furthermore, if an AC adapter can be connected to the USB hub, please connect the AC adapter to provide power to the USB hub.

(10) While the PC has been booted with this device connected, two icons of this device are displayed.

Cause: This device is connected to a PC which can be booted from USB device.

Measure: Please change setting of the PC to make it unable to be booted from USB device.
For details, please read the instruction manual of the PC or consult with the manufacturer of the PC.

(11) The PC is halted during the booting process with the device connected.

Cause: The device is connected to a PC which can not be booted from USB device.

Measure: The PC should not be booted with the device connected. Please let the PC booted with the device removed. Connect the device again after end of booting of the PC.

Cause: The connection of the device and the power supply are abnormal.

Measure: Please verify the connection status and the power supply.

(12) Alarm displayed when the device is removed from the PC.

Cause: You have not execute the correct procedure for removing the device.

Measure: When removing the device from the PC with power supply connected, you need to execute the procedure through the Remove icon at right bottom corner of the screen, and then remove the device.

(13) Once the device is connected, the PC is halted.

Cause: The connection of the device and the power supply are abnormal.

Measure: Please verify the connection status and the power supply.

(14) Once the device is connected and the PC is booted, the PC enters Safe mode.

Cause: The connection of the device and the power supply are abnormal.

Measure: Please verify the connection status and the power supply.

(15) Files cannot be saved, although empty space is still available in the device.

Cause: Possibly there are too much files.

Measure: The number of files and folders which can be saved/created in a folder is limited.
Please save the files to other folders if such files cannot be saved. Or you can move several files to another location and create a folder there, then save the files to the created folder.

(16) If you use eSATA bracket, after booting of the PC the device cannot be recognized even if it is connected.

Cause: This is the feature of the SATA host controller you are using.

Measure: Please right-click on the [SATAUnplug] icon in Task Tray and click on [Update Device Information] in the displayed menu. The device shall be recognized after a while.
In case the device cannot be recognized through such procedures, please restart the PC.

(17) If you use eSATA bracket and remove the device with SATAUnplug, then the device cannot be recognized even if the device is connected to the PC again.

Cause: This is the feature of the SATA host controller you are using.

Measure: Please restart the PC.
