Troubleshooting

When you do not know whether or not DHCP server exists in your present network environment.
Solution

If there is a "Broadband router", "ADSL modem with router function", or "Windows NT server" in your network environment, DHCP server functions may already be in use.

You can confirm with [Method 1] or [Method 2] shown below.

Method 1: Confirm with the computer IP address settings
Method 2: Confirm using Windows standard tool (Windows only)

[Method 1: Confirm with the computer IP address settings]
You can confirm with the computer IP address settings that exist in the network and can be used to access the internet normally.
(If the IP address setting is set to "Acquire from DHCP server" and is available normally in LAN, then there is a DHCP server in the network.)

1

Open the screen with which you can confirm the IP address of the computer.

* The screen in which you can confirm the IP address differs depending on the OS. ([Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties] screen, [TCP/IP Properties] screen, [Network] screen, or [TCP/IP] screen, etc.)

2

If the setting of the computer IP address has been set to [Obtain an IP address automatically] or [Using DHCP Server], then DHCP server may exist in the network.

Using DHCP server in Windows XP

Using DHCP server in Mac OS X

[Method 2: Confirm using Windows standard tool (Windows only)]
You can confirm whether DHCP server is used with Windows standard tool.

>Windows XP/2000
1

Select [Start]-[All Programs]-[Accessories]-[Command Prompt].

2 Enter IPCONFIG -ALL (put a space between G and -), and press the [Enter] key.
3If an address (DHCP server's address) is displayed in [DHCP Server] field, DHCP server exists in this network.

>Windows Me/98
1

Select [Start]-[Run].

2Enter "WINIPCFG" in the [Name] field and click the [OK] button.
3Select your LAN adapter name and click the [More Info>>] button.
4If IP address is displayed in the [DHCP Server] field, it means a DHCP server exists in the network.
