[*]About backup data generation management function procedures.
Under backup data generation management, EsaySaver4 procedures are as follows.

When performing backup, every time one backup information is created. That becomes one 'generation'. (In differntial backup, even when the previous backup was performed, nothing was changed, the created backup information becomes one generation.)

Generation management is executed after backup is completed.
When backup finishes normally, backup data generation number in backup destination is checked, if exceeds the above set 'generation number' generation management will be performed.

During generation management, due to backup mode of backup job, the following procedures are executed.

  • Full backup mode
Backup data that exceeds the appointed generation number will be deleted starting from the oldest file.

  • Differential backup mode
Backup data that exceeds the appointed generation number will be combined starting from the oldest file.

In differential backup mode, the following special procedures may happen.

    "When files are skipped"
When file backed up in previous generation(1) is backed up in the next generation(2) skip those 2 generations are combined, in the new generation (2) backup data, the file(A) is saved in the condition of generation (1).

[*]Note

  • When setting this function, backup data separated on more than one diasc cannot be saved.

  • In case of differential backup, when chaning name of backup target folder/file during next backup, that folder/file is considered deleted. (Will not be backed up.)
Hence, as generatation management function deletes old data, those folder/ file of backup data will also be deleted.
